Square now processing credit card transactions on Android phones

Tuesday 11th of May 2010 / androinica.com
Square, a startup that allows people to accept payments through mobile devices, has released an iPhone and Android application. The new system allows small businesses, service providers, charities, or even friends to take payments using their phone. The new Android app requires Android 2.0 or higher. It is also compatible with Square’s free credit card reader, which can plug into the audio jack and process secure transactions. Square then produces receipts for transactions and even displays photos of items you buy. It also permits customers to provide tips to wait staff and delivery persons.Square provides a free setup and mobile card reader, but it does charge a fee for transactions; 2.75% + 15¢ to swipe cards, 3.5% + 15¢ for keyed-in transactions. Visit Squareup.com to start your mobile business (or business from your mobile) by signing-up and scanning Square’s QR code.

Squareup App Compatibility - Page 2

Wednesday 16th of February 2011 / androidtablets.net
I got the MID7015 with the hopes of using the Paynet app. for processing credit cards.I tried the Paynet app from Appslib - It wouldn't install. I contacted Paynet, they said "They have checked with the owner of the company who also checked with the developer. Though we are listed on Appslib, the version is not compatible. Access to the Android market is imperative with our service." The square thing is really cool. I think the best I'll be able to do is using the Intuit web app for CC processing.

Using Backflip as wifi hub for other devices?

Monday 14th of June 2010 / android.net
I searched the forums and didn't find anything addressing this (though I may have missed something). I want to use Square (www.squareup.com) to accept credit cards at my hot dog cart. The problem is, it doesn't work with anything lower than Android 2.0, so it won't work on my backflip. I am definitely NOT going out to buy an iphone (plus adding another cell account wouldn't be worth the money). The idea I had was that I could buy an ipod touch, and somehow tether that to my backflip. I tried pdanet, but there has to be a USB connection (which wouldn't really work) or a bluetooth connection (which the ipod touch doesn't appear to support, although I plan to borrow a friend's to try it).Is there any app out there that can make the backflip act as a wifi router for other devices (like the wifi-capable ipod touch) to connect to the internet? Or has anyone been able to successfully do through bluetooth that could tell me how?I have limited testing ability right now (since I don't want to buy the ipod touch unless I know for sure I can make this work). I do have one friend that owns one I c

Square/SquareUp credit card reader

Tuesday 26th of October 2010 / everythingandroid.org
I looks like SquareUp is getting up to speed on shipping their free Square credit card readers. It plugs into the headphone jack. How does that work? They appear to be reasonably priced. Pretty slick if you need to take credit cards on the go.https://squareup.com/http://www.appbrain.com/app/square/com.squareupSwyped from my Eris running xtrSense 3.

Square?

Friday 19th of November 2010 / android.net
Has anyone visited squareup.com?I can know swipe and take credit cards using my droid. I have a 'dongle' (no not that!) that plugs into the headphone jack of the phone. You key in the amount, swipe card through dongle and it authorizes the payment. Client signs on touch screen in a little box and then client is sent an email receipt.Works great. square takes 2.7% which is a bit steep for a small business, but there are no monthly maintenance fees. So it's good for someone who needs to accept cards occasionally.Check it out.Mike

Need inexpensive tablet to work with Square reader!

Monday 20th of August 2012 / androidtablets.net
I'm setting up a charity event and need an inexpensive tablet to use to take payments with Square (squareup.com).Their specs say it may or may not work with any given tablet - and that the tablet needs a headset (not audio only) jack. So, does anyone have experience with square and if so, on what tablets (cheaper is better, since these will be only marginally attended to and might "grow legs").Or can you tell me how to figure out from online info which tablets have headSET rather than headPHONE jacks...?Thanks, in advance, for your help!
