Comcast releases Xfinity TV Player for Android

Saturday 26th of May 2012 / androidcentral.com
We've been waiting on this one for a while now, but thankfully Comcast has finally decided to release an Xfinity streaming app for the most popular mobile OS on the planet. With XfinityTV Player for Android you can stream thousands of on-demand movies and television shows from Comcast, right to your Android phone or tablet. The only catch (you knew there would be one) is you have to be a Comcast customer and have to be paying the monthly subscription for the premium channels you want to stream content from. The biggest plus here is the tablet availability. Other on-demand streaming apps (hello HBOGo) are a little late with the tablet support, but Xfinity says it's compatible with any Android device running 2.3 or higher, and we've verified it works on the Transformer Prime and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The app itself is free and available in the Google Play store, and will stream with any data connection. If you've been waiting, go grab it!Download Xfinity TV Player from Google PlayThanks everyone who sent this in!

Comcast Releases XFINITY TV Player on Android, Watch Thousands of ON Demand Shows From Anywhere – Droid Life

Friday 25th of May 2012 / droid-life.com
Over the last year or so, Comcast released a couple of XFINITY apps that were nothing more than glorified TV guides or DVR managers. The one feature that would have actually made them useful on a regular basis, ON Demand streaming, was left out. That is until today. Comcast pushed the XFINITY TV Player app to the Play store, giving customers access to all of their favorite shows from anywhere in the world. It works over WiFi or a data connection, and does it flawlessly. I fired up the app for a few minutes and was watching old Eastbound & Down videos within seconds. Thanks, Comcast.Play Link

XFINITY TV Player Finally Arrives – Worth The Wait?

Monday 28th of May 2012 / talkandroid.com
//Members of cable company Comcast in the U.S. have been complaining for a long time about not having a way to stream movies and TV shows to their Android phone or tablet. A few days ago, a new app appeared in the Play Store by Comcast Interactive Media by the name of XFINITY TV Player. We’ve been teased before with an app by Comcast called XFINITY TV, but that app was purely informational and had no streaming ability, unlike the same app for iOS users. As Android users, we’ve been used to being second in line to Apple when it comes to the release of apps (remember how long it took before we got Netflix streaming?) but now that Android is the biggest mobile OS in the world, I would hope those release schedules would start to sway in our favor. In any case, we are thankful when we get the apps, and in the case of Comcast’s latest, it may have been worth the wait.FeaturesWhen looking at a streaming video app, there’s usually not much we look for besides reliable streaming, good quality video, and a good selection. We’ll get into those later, but XFINITY TV P

Saturday 16th of February 2013 / androidpolice.com
Comcast's XFINITY TV for Android got updated today after more than half a year of silence. The app, which allows XFINITY customers to control their cable boxes and DVRs, received the following additions and tweaks with version 1.4.1.002 (up from 1.2.0.005):We now automatically detect your channel lineup. That means no more fussing with having to select your zip code and lineup before using the app.Select your favorite channels in the TV listing grid to make it easier to find what you want to watch.Use the new keypad to change channels from the TV listings grid.View and tune to the last few channels you watched.Additionally, ICS support is said to be coming soon - the app is compatible with devices running Android 2.1 - 3.2 only at the moment.Unfortunately, there's no word yet on either AnyPlay (live TV, extra device required) or Play Now (OnDemand, no extra device required) features, which are already present on XFINITY for iOS devices and allow video streaming. These features should be added in future updates. As you can see, the UI now contains a new CH button:Pressing it reveals a

Xfinity TV Player offers on-demand streaming for Comcast customers - is it good enough to forget Hulu?

Wednesday 06th of June 2012 / androinica.com
The Xfinity TV Player app recently arrived on Android, allowing Comcast Xfinity subscribers to get free, on-demand viewing of popular TV programs streamed live to their mobile devices. That made me wonder how this new app stands up against the other services that have come before it. (Obviously, this comparison only matters if you are an Xfinity customer.)Netflix remains the King of the Hill for streaming in terms of the size of its library, but its content is many months or years old. Xfinity is designed to catch users up on newer or more recent television episodes, so there’s only one fair competitor to pit against this new app – Hulu, or more accurately, Hulu Plus.Hulu Plus has been on Android for a long time, but there are considerable gripes with the app. It was only a few months ago that the app finally supported Android tablets, yet it somehow managed to leave out the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the most successful proper Android tablet to date. Xfinity worked well on two phones from Samsung and HTC, and two Samsung and Toshiba tablets at my disposal. Advantage Xfini

Comcast releases Xfinity TV Player, finally allows you to stream content

Saturday 26th of May 2012 / phandroid.com
Comcast subscribers will be glad to learn that the cable company has just released a new app – Xfinity TV Player. This applications allows subscribers to watch on-demand content like HBO and Showtime shows. One can also use Comcast’s video streaming service Streampix, if subscribed. It is nice to see this coming to Android after a very long wait. Try not to confuse it with the other Comcast app, though. The other one works as a remote for your DVR and is called Xfinity TV, just one word short of the other app. Comcast subscribers that want to get their video-watching on can simply download the app from the Google Play Store now. It is compatible with all devices running Android 2.3 or higher, so the vast majority of us will be covered. [Via: The Verge]
